Collaborative Artist Book Workshop

During this three week workshop, participants will collectively create a limited edition handmade artist book using mixed media methods. Students will learn various image-making techniques such as pochoir, letterpress printing, mono printing, collage and more!

Rachel will also guide the class in exercises to generate text and content for the pages of their artist books. The history of zines and artist books will be explored as a base for inspiration as well. Participants will leave this workshop with an original artist book (or two)  and plenty of skills that can translate into future projects.

Where Artist Books Meet Zines

See what happens when zines (DIY or self-published magazines) meet artists' books (limited edition handmade books) in this three-week workshop with book artist Rachel Curry. Explore the culture and history of both mediums to find similarities and differences between the two. Learn letterpress printing, bookbinding and mixed media techniques. Make your very own books using these skills and resources

Each student will design and create a mini personal zine as well as a collaborative class zine that highlights the best of both worlds.

Classes meet Tuesday February 13th, 20th & 27th from 6:30 - 9:30 PM.

Pressure Printing Letterpress Workshop

Book artist, Rachel Curry will lead participants in a day of experimentation with pressure printing. In this alternative image making process, using the Vandercook press, flexible printing plates are cut by hand and placed on the cylinder of the press. Paper is then run on top of the plate and over an inking surface on the bed of the press. The resulting images are beautiful, fuzzy and organic. This process leaves much room for interpretation and play. Students will learn basic press set up, proper inking techniques, and multiple pressure printing methods. Everyone will have an edition of original prints by the end of the class. Total beginners and experienced printers are all welcome!
